Following two decades as the leader of Masters, Ron Maydon has secured a promising future for the company he founded in 2004. As he prepares to step down from his daily responsibilities, Maydon’s passion and values will continue to be upheld. Leading the way at GP Extreme is Fred Fatien, a seasoned racer and car enthusiast who has long been a supporter of Masters. With an intimate understanding of the racing community Masters represents and the potential it holds, Fatien is well equipped to take on this role.
Masters Historic Racing is set to remain in full operation for the 2024 race season, with the current organisational team at the helm. As part of their expanding lineup of motorsport events, GP Extreme will also add the Masters Historic Racing team to their roster, alongside popular races like the Dubai Historic Grand Prix. Fans can expect the published 2024 Masters Race Schedule to stay intact, marking the start of an exciting new phase for Masters.
The newly established motorsport organization aims to carry on the legacy of Masters’ creator, Ron Maydon, while also promoting a love for vintage racing as it moves forward in its journey under the name of Masters Historic Racing.
For the past twenty years, Masters has established a unique style of historic racing and an internationally recognized brand. Founder Ron Maydon expressed his pride in the accomplishments of their small yet exceptional team, which started with one historic Formula 1 grid in 2004 and now extends worldwide. However, as he nears his 73rd birthday, Maydon acknowledges the need to spend more time with his supportive wife, five children, and thirteen grandchildren, along with his motor racing friends around the globe. Therefore, he has decided it is time to find someone to lead Masters into its next phase. Fred and his team at GP Extreme will be taking over and bringing their enthusiasm and fresh ideas while embracing the ethos of Masters. Rest assured that Rachel, the current Masters team, and Maydon himself will continue working throughout the 2024 season to ensure a successful future for Masters.
Frédéric Fatien, Founder of GP Extreme, expressed his excitement as the team embarks on a new journey. Inspired by the pursuit of victory, they will temporarily set aside their GT3 team to focus solely on historic racing. The partnership between Ron and Frédéric has spanned across Europe, North America, Asia and Central America in various races. Their shared love for historic racing has led them to this new endeavor, with plans to honor the Masters legacy and ethos through further exciting projects within the 2024 calendar. For Frédéric, historic racing holds a special place in his heart – from iconic circuits to a museum-like atmosphere filled with roaring engines and stunning cars – it is truly magical. His passion for this sport led him to create the Dubai Gulf Historic event, which caught Ron’s attention and ultimately solidified their partnership. Together, they share the same values of camaraderie, a fun and relaxed environment, and a passionate community that will drive them forward in this exhilarating historic racing adventure. GP Extreme takes great pride in carrying on the esteemed reputation of Masters Historic Racing – an organization that has hosted 275 events across 17 countries since its inception in 2004 and boasts a community of 750 enthusiastic members each year
Both the GP Extreme and Masters Historic Racing websites, www.gpextreme.com and www.mastershistoricracing.com, will offer comprehensive coverage of their respective 2024 events as well as background information.
