This groundbreaking venture between two iconic names in motoring, Rob Smedley (former F1 race engineer) and Ferdi Porsche aims to broaden the reach of motorsport and attract up-and-coming racers from diverse backgrounds. Drawing on the success of the Global Karting League, FKL is looking to revolutise grassroots racing by prioritising inclusivity and affordability. Through this initiative, they hope to ignite a passion for motorsport in young talent and raise the standard for the sport.

The affordability of karting is increasing its accessibility.

The aim of the FAT Karting League is to eliminate the financial and logistical obstacles that have traditionally hindered participation in motorsport. With races held at UK tracks, a season of fixed-cost racing starts at only £3,800 for drivers aged six and up. The Junior Pro Series is priced at £5,300, presenting a 96 percent reduction compared to the current F4 pathway which averages £125,000. This initiative removes some of the hindrances that previously prevented gifted young racers from diverse backgrounds from competing. Additionally, FKL operates in various locations worldwide – beginning with the US and soon to be announced others – providing a clear path for progression and supporting drivers as they move up the racing ladder from karting entry-level.

Electric go-karts on outdoor tracks

The FKL offers top-of-the-line outdoor racing with state-of-the-art electric karts created by renowned F1 engineers, providing an unparalleled opportunity for up-and-coming racers. These advanced karts can reach speeds of 60 mph, integrating cutting-edge EV technology and emitting zero emissions for a truly outstanding racing sensation. The championship consists of nine rounds, offering both Regional and Pro categories at leading outdoor tracks throughout the UK, including Whilton Mill and Buckmore Park. This carefully crafted schedule guarantees that aspiring drivers have access to first-class facilities as they hone their abilities in a dynamic and competitive setting.

Unique F4 prize for global winner

The defining feature of the FAT Karting League is its revolutionary prize. Participants from every international hub will battle it out in the FAT World Finals for a chance to win the prestigious F4 seat. The ultimate victor will be granted a fully-sponsored spot in the 2026 FIA British F4 Championship, competing in all rounds of the series. This exceptional reward offers up-and-coming racers a direct route to the world of professional motorsport, a rare and valuable opportunity to make the jump from grassroots karting to the global stage of racing.

UK and US karting hubs to launch in 2025

The FAT Karting League will debut its first hub in the UK in January 2025. Later in Q2 of that year, FKL will extend its presence to the U.S., introducing high-speed racing to a lively motorsport market. These launches signal the start of a worldwide expansion, showcasing FKL’s commitment to providing inclusive and economical racing opportunities for a diverse and expanding audience.

Revolutionary layout to attract the upcoming generation.

The FAT World Finals is shaking up the motorsport industry with a bold format that breaks away from conventional racing norms. Taking inspiration from successful sports franchises like the Kings League and Icon League in soccer, this event is revolutionizing the way races are organized. By incorporating elements from gaming, streaming, and creator culture, it aims to captivate the younger generation with a unique and captivating experience. With an understanding of modern trends and speaking the language of today’s youth, the FAT Karting League strives to make motorsport and grassroots racing more thrilling, accessible, and relatable for younger audiences.

As the leader of Smedley Group, CEO Rob Smedley has been instrumental in driving our company’s success.

The FAT Karting League marks a significant turning point for grassroots motorsport. Thanks to the partnership with FAT International, we have incredible visibility and a brand that particularly resonates with today’s youth. This allows us to reach out to and energize a new generation, fulfilling my dream when I first launched this project four years ago. I am personally invested in this initiative, and together with FAT and Four Gardens Motorsport, we will work towards breaking down barriers and making motorsport accessible and inspiring for all.

FAT International’s CEO, Ferdi Porsche:
